Quite interesting, I've tested with the tif file only and haven't seen the message in log whereas it occured when I added a shapefile and the tif at the same time. going to investigate .. I guess there might be different implementations and the order of executions (canProcess) leads to different behaviors. I guess the debugger will help :)

regarding the nls message, I'v tested the provided fix and it works, pull request : https://github.com/locationtech/udig-platform/pull/677

Regarding imagemosaic log-output: Please correct me if I'm wrong, my read of Util.java is that a properties file is not optional. This raises the question: What kind of data-source have you used. any chance that I can test with the data-set?

The dataset I've used was the sample data from Natural Earth mentioned in your Quickstart guide. http://udig.refractions.net/files/data/data_1_3.zip
