Better to ask questions like this in the news groups.
In any case there's the -configuration command line option with which
you can set the directory where eclipse stores his configuration.
Pls, have a look at the "Eclipse runtime options" page in eclipse help,
There are plenty of options to configure eclipse for multiple user usage.

Recently I downloaded and installed 3.0 on my SuSE 9.0 Linux system. I
was able to easily install it in my home directory, but I really prefer
to install it in a system directory. After analyzing the crash logs, I
set the configuration directory to read-write-execute by all to get it
to work in a system directory.
I would prefer not to allow Eclipse to write into that directory in the
case where multiple users might be running eclipse. My having the common
configuration directory, there could be a race condition.
