Re: [eclipse-dev] eclipse v3.0 on linuxPPC 
The Eclipse download page says: "You will need a 1.4.1 level or higher 
Java runtime or Java development kit (JDK) installed on your machine in 
order to run Eclipse."

In the list of reference platforms, some platforms refer to 1.4.2 VMs but 
that is not a hard requirement just a definition of a reference platform. 
It is possible that problems have been discovered with a particular 1.4.1 
VM and therefore a 1.4.2 VM was chosen.  It is not due to a requirement on 
any new API in 1.4.2.
