Yes I have an idea - I did the work and it is staged as a pull request.

(The description of that pull request gives the details)
Basically everything went fine, except for TableView .. which will now need to listen to FeatureSource to be advised of events.
I took careful notes on how to update: http://docs.geotools.org/latest/userguide/welcome/upgrade.html
(And the notes were based on updating the uDig code base)
Still it sounds like this is too much, and we should look at it after we get a codebase back!
