Congratulations on the patch.
In free software projects, proposed fixes are generally attached to a
'bug report', 'issue' or 'task'---the language used depends on the
project. So, much as you use those bug reports to describe problems, we
also use them to track the problem, propose fixes, and attach code. If
there is no existing report describing the problem for which you have a
fix, one opens a new bug to attach the patch.
