Re: [ptp-dev] easyeclipse

Hi Philippe,

A scientific computing distro would be awesome! Here are some suggestions (other PTP'ers may also have ideas):

Basic Scientific Computing (Base):

- Eclipse Platform (excluding PDE and JDT)
- CDT
- Photran (which has merged with FDT)
- Subclipse

Other optional components you could add to the base, and that would support commonly used languages:

- PyDev
- EPIC

Parallel Scientific Computing:

- Base
- PTP (Includes parallel runtime, debugger and parallel language development tools)

The current version (1.0) of PTP only supports the Open Runtime Environment (ORTE), so you'd probably want to call this the ORTE distro. In coming versions we will support multiple runtime systems and resource managers, so the distro would be more generic.

Let me know how we can help.

Cheers,

Greg

I am one of the EasyEclipse maintainer.
We have been talking internally about doing a distro specifically for scientific computing that would have everything that is needed but no more. :-)
Your input would be great!
What could be your ideal plugin line-up?
How does the FDT in PTP and Photran relate to each other for instance?
Woudl you have CDT too?
Cordially
