Another problem is that the bold-italics isn't drawn in until later on new editors, so the editor comes up, there's a short but noticable pause, then some of the text is redrawn (I guess as some background job figures out that they are static calls).

I have to say after trying this that it looks very noisy. Over use of varying fonts is a classic UI design blooper. A typical Java method now has up to eight different fonts using the default style settings. I understand the desire to show off new features, but isn't this a bit much?
