If it is taking 5 minutes on Codehaus, it is probably getting a list
of all projects and their versions/components (they have a very large
number of projects).

Look like it. I don't see any improvement for second call. Current
progress monitoring on is no help at all, so I opened an issue to
improve it:

It would be possible to load the details for only the projects that
you access, but you will eventually need to load all projects if you
are creating a new issue or creating a query (project selection is the
first step for both of these processes).
I don't think I will ever need list of projects and I for sure won't
need details for all projects since I work with only one project for
most of the time.
So it would make sense to do it more lazily and maybe also persist it
locally to avoid fetching on each Eclipse restart. Refetch/cache clean
probably could be forced from repository view.
BTW, Mik, it would be nice if there will be Jira component in Mylar
module list in Bugzilla.
