At first, I thought I would start attending steering committee meetings and voting in my new role starting in January 2024. But now I understand how terms, dates, and assuming office are officially designated, I will start attending regularly from the next meeting and voting in the open ballots as Committer Representative.

I will update the official documents available  here [1], since they state that:

1) Once a year in December, the MPCR’s elections are run  and 

2) The result of this election will define the new MPCR for the next year (January 1st through December 31st)

Terms and Dates

Elected representatives shall each serve one-year terms or until their respective successors are appointed or elected, or as otherwise provided for in the charter. 

It's typical for the calendar year to run from April 1 to March 31 but that is not always the case. There shall be no prohibition on re-election or re-designation of any representative following the completion of that representative's term of office.

Assuming Office

Outgoing representatives remain in office until the newly-elected representatives take office. Once the results of the election are announced, the winners are officially elected and attend the first meeting of the next steering committee in the following month.
