Re: [technology-pmc] meeting reminder

One more to pass on:

+1 for JTS project (Martin attending)

Rob for reference do you have numbers for Philadelphia? Just trying to follow our note from the meeting.

Next I would like to take this out to a wiki page so we can share it with individual project lists.

Thanks Andrea (and by extension Sharon) - I expect Skype can work for coordination.

It is important for the sprinters present to have time away from day-to-day work to focus on submitting CQs / untangling rejected CQs. I expect the Eclipse IP team does not have the same struggle.

I have been able to double check dates with the geogig project and Gabriel/Tyler are available to attend Jan 25-27. I am also happy to start early for anyone already in town.

Some notes on Victoria as a sprint location for Jan 25-27th:

* Airport: YYJ (the most common flights in are from SFO, SEA and YVR)
* Facilities: http://www.forttectoria.ca/ (show conference room $200 CAD/day "tech-member" rate)
* Weekend (if there is interest): Boundless Victoria office is available
* Hotel: Have done biz with http://www.parksidevictoria.com/ before (10-15% discount corporate rate) will phone tomorrow to check on bulk discount etc... May be worth looking at cheaper option.

Hi Everyone,

My feeling is the dedicated time for LocationTech'ers to get together and raise the CQ's, and hack code is very worthwhile. We've got some budget we can use to feed hungry & quench thirsty LocationTecher's.

Regarding the release sprint, I would like to suggest something that may work well. Projects that want to be part of LocationTech release train 1.0... speak up to opt-in. Let's pick a deadline to get CQ's for RT 1.0 in by. Maybe end of January right after the code sprint?

We can then aim to have them all reviewed by the IP team some time after, say end of February perhaps. (obviously depending on how much there is of course) This will require responsiveness from the projects during the review to cover any back & forth with the IP team.

I'm not sure it's necessary to have an IP person physically on site. What we could do instead is ask them to be available by Skype or Hangout for Q&A a few times during the sprint should they be needed.

Thoughts?

Andrea

Thanks to Rob and Jim for a very productive/relaxed meeting. Here are the notes...

Incubation Sprint

  • General enthusiasm - hey we can finally do this :) Goal is to have a block of time to submit CQs and get some projects graduated
  • Considering timing with respect to GeoServer Code Jan18 (Victoria)
  • Venue Choice:
    • Victoria:
      • May be good timing to do before or after Victoria GeoServer sprint?
(Gabriel, Jody, Jim and Martin already present)
      • Cross over to discuss JAI replacement
    • Philadelphia
      • GeoTrellis has offered to host!
    • Ottawa - close to IP team - but very cold!
    • Whistler - semi serious suggestion - good skiing, temping to sharon on the IP team
  • Sprint Planing
    • Q: How much time?
      A: 3 day incubation code sprint - January 25th-27th
    • Q: Can we get the IP team to come out?
      A: TBD
  • action: Run the numbers (travel / accommodation) for the leading candidates (Victoria and Philadelphia).

GeoTrellis update

  • Focus for release 0.10 ... then incubation :)

GeoMesa

  • How are we doing on the CQ train?
  • Got everything +1, IP reviewing now ... great news!
  • How to handle GeoTools 14.1 CQ?
    • One Big CQ and then small piggybacks?
    • Or small CQs that build on each other ...
  • Action: Start one CQ and each project can add the jars they need ..
  • Q: Can we enter the CQ against the top level locationtech project?
A: no since it has no committers
  • Note: Need pull request from Tom Ingold (update: he has signed contributors agreement)

GeoBench:

  • interesting new project
    • Initial based on datastore raster
    • Consider wrapper based on CQL, reference implementation based on DataStore
  • ideas for participation for raster?
  • may be possible for comparison between raster/vector processing
    • simple: min,max, histogram
    • complex: theme based drawing

SFCurve

  • Expect some contributions in collaboration with GeoMesa release

Arithectechure Council discussion

  • See email, may be worth while to coordiante with science working group
  • Jim is considering volunteering ... :)

Apparently I did not send a meeting reminder out, if anyone is interested in joining the hangout I could use the company.

For the moment I am going to be reviewing any outstanding CQs.
