Re: [technology-pmc] Works with designation for jai-core Version: 1.1.3

That is my understanding, if JAI has been installed into the JRE then additional functionality would be available in GeoMesa.

I would recommend highlighting the binary distribution license (which is clear about applicability for commercial use).

To be clear about a "works with" designation I would want to be ensure GeoMesa runs without jai-core ...

For context GeoTools is divided up into modules so this would be based on what geotools modules are used.

* gt-metadata: Hints.java references in javadocs (so nothing to prevent running)
* gt-referencing: not aware of any use
* gt-coverage: makes heavy use of JAI (even just for exception reporting with may prevent running)
* gt-main: some use when working with rasters

Aside: On a related note geotools-devel alumni are putting together plans for a replacement for jai-core. I expect myself and others may be interested in taking part.

I believe that their intended use complies with the definition of works with. I hereby request your approval to designate it as such.

Thanks,

Wayne
