Hi,
I confirm that it does not involve making a new version of Papyrus but
only to define a specific configuration of it.
The main question is then to define its content:
- Which diagrams, and for each diagram type which context of creation is
enabled (e.g., do we allow class diagram creation only on either Package
and Class, only Package, only Class, other ?) ?
- For each diagram, what the UML model elements to enable/hide?
In addition to that version "Papyrus for Lightweight-UML", we will
provide a tutorial in order to assist anyone that would like to modify
the configuration in order to extend or reduce its perimeter.
Best... Sébastien.

I am pretty sure most people use only a couple of diagrams when
teaching or deploying something as complex as UML: class diagram, use
cases, state machines and sequence diagrams are common choices for
example. Otherwise you lose your students or users very quickly :)
Anyway: the idea is not to develop something completely new without
interaction with Papyrus team, but rather to customize as far as possible
using the high level mechanisms, and propose improvements and fixes to
Papyrus when needed.

It seems a good option for a lot's of readers ... why not
But will this version "solved" the fact that graphic elements cannot be
drawn easily ? Drawing a line could be quite complex with Papyrus and the
place of graphic element is strongly constraint And will it be another
eclipse project or be included in the existing Papyrus ? There are
already a lot of projects around modeling, one more could add some
"confusion"
I am afraid to be not convinced by the choice ...
What does a simple mean ?
Because when you teach UML, you teach all diagrams maybe not profile
diagram, but most of the others including deployment diagram ...

+ 1.
And, it must be rock solid. (student-proof, the strongest quality
criteria, it is hard to guess what a student will do, and usually he
will do worse)

Hi Xavier,
very good proposition. I strongly support it.

Hi,
During EclipseCon France held in Toulouse on the 17th-18th of June, some
of us have shared an idea.
We imagine to have a "simple" UML modeler based on a customization of
Papyrus 1.0 (the Luna release)
Papyrus 1.0 has evolved a lot and offer a large set of feature for
customization.
The goal of such a package will be to:
1. Fully describe and comment how to build a customized tool based
on Papyrus
2. Shared a dedicated tests suite on such a customization.
3. Have a basic UML modeler in order to train Student or new comer
on UML language,
In the first release, we could imagine having a limited subset of
diagrams in order to have a "short term" schedule.
This could be a part of Polarsys Packaging Project (3P), as a dedicated
package for UML modelling.
What do you think of such a proposition ?
