I checked on IRC, sounds like the "current netcdf champions" have a netCDF plugin expected real soon now - and I should not get my hopes up for the pull request mentioned below as the developer has yet to obtain commit access.

Yes, we have also some unsupported plugins for uDig floating in the
modules evolution. The min at the version end is a bit strange thought
:)
Not sure what you are asking me, for sure the current netcdf champions
are the Geosolutions guys.
