If you generate an SDK from trunk you may find he has fixed things for you.

I managed to add upate functionality with the old and deprecated API (UpdateManagerUI, etc.).

Now my problem is to avoid update manager to search updates for eclipse 3.5 because its update site has changed... that throw an error message during update.
