Please try http://download.geofabrik.de/ and espacially http://download.geofabrik.de/osm/europe/germany. 

There are several downloads for Germany or other countries worldwide available. You have the chance to download the original OSM data set or as a zip of shapefiles.

Hey Guys!

I'm using OpenStreetMap to visualize some GPS coordinates and would like to see if a local dump on my hard drive can speed up the visualization process. I was trying to download Germany, but I only able to find the entire world. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks for helping!
