Postgis connection dialog very user unfriendly
----------------------------------------------
Key: UDIG-1179
URL: http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/UDIG-1179
Project: uDIG
Issue Type: Bug
Components: catalog
Affects Versions: UDIG 1.1.RC8
Reporter: Andrea Aime
Assigned To: Jody Garnett
Take a uDig totally fresh, that is, delete or remove your $home/My Documents/uDig folder (if you do so, you'll get the welcome screen when uDig starts, otherwise not).
Then try to attach a postgis database: catalog, data, postgis.
Include correct ip, but wrong user and password, tabbing thru the fields.
After the password, uDig will try to fill list the databases, but since the password it's wrong, the list will stay unfilled. Yet no error message will be displayed.
Now try to edit the database name, first letter and boom, the list becomes uneditable (but I've also seen a message "database d does not exits!" where d is the only letter I typed), as well as the user name and password... uarg, I have to start filling data again???
Why can't I correct user name and password?
Reminds me of a Dilbert cartoon:
Dilbert: we could make this new software very user friendly...
Dilbert: or we make the user fill in all data again for each error
Pointy haired boss: make it so they have to reboot after each typo!
