I was confused when I launched the new udig. I tried to add data to it, but it took me several minutes to figure out how to do it! I cannot stress how important the first 1 minute of using the application is.
This is what I tried:
1. File menu -- looked for some type of "Load Dataset..." item (FAILED)
2. Tried "New-->Other" (FAILED)
NOTE: there are New-->Map and New-->Project but New-->Other only has a "Project" Option.
3. Right-clicked on the catalog view to see if I could get a "add dataset..." menu (FAILED)
4. Right-clicked on the layer view to see if I could get a "add dataset..." menu (FAILED)
I finally did a drag-and-drop to get data in. But, that doesnt help for things like WMS and WFS.
I gave up at this point and asked for help on irc. Apparently you do a Layer->Add.. (Note - you should say "FileSystem (ie. Shapefile, ...)" instead of just "FileSystem")
This was frustrating.
