As of release 0.1 we have only created a Windows and Linux/GTK version,
as that is we have available to test on at the moment, and we did not
wish to release an untested version. Cross-platform support is one of
our goals, and we are working on it. The only possible issue that I can
see at the moment is our use of Java Advanced Imaging, but I'm not even
sure if that is even a problem. Hopefully our next release will have
support for Mac OS and more window managers.

I'd to get involved but I absolutely no tolerance for platform dependent
solutions (even if it's my perferred platform.)
If turns out that I all I need to do is hack the Linux/GTK download and
add the SWT libraries for my platform, then why aren't you shipping this
release as an Eclipse plugin?
Seems kinda silly to be able to run Eclipse but not be able to run uDig.
