Sounds like a very old sumo version where this command was not supported has been used. Since the error comes from sumo rather than you traci client script I would guess that you have a new and an old sumo version on your machine and the old version was started against your expectation. Make sure that SUMO_HOME points to the newer installation.

I'm trying to retrieve vehicle lateral speed using TraCI with a python script. However, I get the below error when I use the method:
