[sumo-user] Status of mesoscopic simulator

Dear all,

I would like to simulate a relatively large city network in SUMO (cca 140 km2, 170 k inhabitants) and use the simulation results as a function sample in an optimisation algorithm. As such I would like to get the results relatively fast, meaning that at least for the initial runs I would like to use the mesoscopic subsystem of SUMO.

Now, to make things more interesting, I need to simulate electric public transport vehicles (plugin buses and hybrid trolleybuses). As I understand it, the meso subsystem in SUMO does not support neither public transport, nor electric vehicle, nor TraCI (which I currently use to simulate the model of the trolleybus).

I have some resources to spend on this, and I am trying to estimate the effort to get the missing pieces in place: The plugin bus is in fact a larger EV with some additional parameters, so the existing EV model could be adopted for this and I will not need the TraCI; the hybrid trolleybus is in fact the same plus overhead wires (which are simulated as a sequence of charing stations at the moment); I assume that this boils down to porting the existing EV model + our extensions into the mesoscopic subsystem. The other thing is the implementing the correct handling of PT routes (and possibly PT priority) within the mesoscopic subsystem.

Can anyone comment on this? Does anyone actively use the mesoscopic subsystem currently? Are there any activities in this respect that we could participate on?

Thanks for information!

Jan
