Hi Everyone,
I just wanted to add a few comments about the PMC.
The role of the PMC is typically pretty minimal, as the individual projects are responsible for most of the work in relation to the Eclipse Development Process. The PMC is primarily responsible of ensuring that the process is understood and followed by the projects. Most activity generally centers around approving CQs and committer election results.
The size and composition of PMCs varies widely. Other than a PMC lead, there is no requirement for any particular membership. The Platform PMC has five members who meet weekly. Until recently, the Tools PMC had only two members, but was expanded to include membership from each of the Tools projects. However, it rarely meets, and most of the process work is still carried out by the original two members.
The PMC is a good place to create some common procedures and standards for Science projects, and to coordinate the content of the Science contribution to Oxygen and beyond. However, since there are no hard-and-fast rules, we can grow and adapt the PMC role to best suit the requirements of Science. I think the working group could provide some useful input into the role of the PMC, and a good communication channel between the working group and PMC would be advantageous.
Regards, Greg
Torkild is correct. Our intention was to provide initial PMC candidates. After it is established, the PMC can adjust future membership requirements as they see fit.
