RE: [ptp-dev] Cell IDE contribution to PTP

By that logic your Windows build toolchain and debugger integration shouldn't be there, since clearly that supports Microsoft's commercial interests.

Fact is, not everyone uses GNU tools. The more platforms CDT supports, the more it will be used.

And sadly no, there is no IDE IBM sells for the scientific space. I'm of the opinion they should, but they don't.

RE: [ptp-dev] Cell IDE contribution to PTP

Cool, thanks Craig. I can see Cell being useful for the scientific community. But I'm trying to figure out if there is any separation between the Cell IDE and IBM commercial interests. You did somewhat confirm that you are an IBM customer and do fit on the commercial side. I assume IBM, like most platform vendors, should be providing a supported IDE as a part of their solution, no?

I think we get into a fuzzy area when a commercial vendor contributes software that can only be used with their products. I have similar concerns with the xlc integration with the CDT, BTW. I'll need to check up the chain about that, assuming that's what this is. And, if the community fully support this, it makes it harder for me to argue.

Cheers,
Doug.

Re: [ptp-dev] Cell IDE contribution to PTP

The Cell architecture is a big component of Los Alamos' computing vision. We have just purchased the 1 Petaflop Roadrunner machine and are looking for ways to ease the transition for our developers. I'm a member of a small team of neural scientists at LANL who are purchasing a small Cell based cluster for code development. Our team is also using Eclipse and PTP and the Cell IDE fits very nicely in the parallel space we are working in.

Cheers,
Craig

I've added a comment on the bug. I'm just wondering how the Cell IDE fits into the PTP mandate. And I'm wondering about the community around the Cell IDE, i.e., who uses it, is there a community outside of IBM commercial interests?
