RE: [platform-swt-dev] MacOS X support in 3.0
|
In bugzilla, each bug report has a list of people who are carbon copied
when the bug report is updated. Anyone can be added - you just need to
create a bugzilla account for yourself:
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/createaccount.cgi
Each plan item has an associated bug report. The report for the Mac port
is:

Two questions: what is cc list? and the qualifications to join?
Thanks.

To be honest, there is only a small list of things that are not yet
implemented on the Mac:
- Printing
- Accessibility
- DBCS and BIDI
- Program (access to Registry type capabilities)
(please correct me if you see any other large items that are missing)
Drag and Drop is almost complete and Tracker has been implemented.
While the 3.0 plan was being debated, allot of work kept going on in the
trenches and a large amount of what we wanted to include for 3.0 actually
got done before the plan was announced.
We spent a fair amount of effort in 2.1 to get the Mac port to a
reasonable state and the plan just reflects the fact that we need to focus
on some other areas (that will be across all platforms) for now.
A deferred item does not mean it will not happen for 3.0 - if we get some
help from outside or find some extra time ourselves, we will continue to
make progress. It just means we can't make any promises.

Not to be an nag, but, to repeat, what was the reasoning behind the
lack of support for OS X? Is it too much work? Is it too much work
given the size of the user community? Is it that Apple hasn't yet
confirmed that they will be using the PowerPC970? ;)
Really, I'm curious.
