Good questions!  There are no new GeoMesa features; just the version upgrades. 

That said, as you note, the LocationTech JTS upgrade does add some exciting* capabilities.  The new version of GeoTools may offer additional bug fixes and features that GeoMesa users would enjoy.

*  For those who don't know, I'm biased and so is Jody; we are JTS committers and conspired to upgrade GeoTools and GeoServer to use the new JTS release!
