All,

Some clarification is needed here (as already provided to the PMC).

The uDig project has been in a proposal state with Eclipse Foundation for approx. 4 years. Never gone into incubation due to the fact that it contained GPL. And 4 years is a lot these days.

The RPE project was intended to solve this problem. However, to this date RPE has also not reaped any results. Although it is once again moving, since resources loom on the horizon.

Perhaps ‘termination’ carries too definitive a meaning. ‘Shelved’ could be used as a better term. Information from the past is not lost.

My suggestion is to have all involved scope uDig’s future again once RPE has reaped results. And put a new proposal forward, so we can actually start with incubation. Incorporating all insights and experiences from the

Hi folks,

regarding uDig Eclipse foundation filed a termination request (#528769) to stop IP review due to inactivity.

Since it is a project where we lost many core committers while we migrated to locationtech and NO company is behind to sponsor migration (yet) the progress we made was not that good.

However, like stated in the issue you can help uDig to fulfill IP requirements (with a subset of functionality) by positive voting to stop termination

Thanks & Best regards
