If you are looking for the history of jgit and egit before they moved to Eclipse, you need this repository https://repo.or.cz/egit.git. Until the move to Eclipse both jgit and egit were versioned in this repository. The historical/pre-eclipse branch has the history before the move to eclipse. https://repo.or.cz/egit.git/shortlog/refs/heads/historical/pre-eclipse It starts with the first commit c1f287cb19b9 "Creating jgit repository."
in Mar 7, 2006, see https://repo.or.cz/egit.git/commit/c1f287cb19b9910af19756cf29c08b1fda75da8c Near the tip of the historical/pre-eclipse branch the jgit repo was moved to a separate repository https://repo.or.cz/jgit.git similarly the egit.git master branch https://repo.or.cz/jgit.git/shortlog/refs/heads/master was seeded with the last version of the pre-eclipse history In Aug 2010 Shawn installed the first Gerrit server (back then Shawn and I managed this installation) on a vserver managed by Eclipse IT and the jgit and egit repositories were moved there (starting with the respective master branch from the old repositories hosted on repo.or.cz). Later this gerrit installation was replaced by the one at https://git.eclipse.org/r managed by Eclipse Foundation. In 2023 until we moved the jgit and egit repositories to GerritHub on Nov 20, 2023 since the Eclipse Foundation had announced the plan to retire their Gerrit server.
