I believe Data must be included in the the web profile for the reasons outlined below:

The thing is that we informally (I know) stated that the platform (full profile) is the legacy profile. It contains the things that almost nobody wants anymore, but which we're also not yet ready to let go of (prune). E.g the Corba stuff, the application client container, and a while ago EJB entity beans, JSR 88 and JSR 77.

The Web Profile always contains the new and/or useful things. I.e. the Jakarta equivalents of everything that reasonably speaking most green field Spring Boot apps would also use.

IMHO, even though we did not formally define the profiles as such, it practically speaking does not make sense to me to add a new hot technology only to the platform / full profile.

The decision to include Data in the Platform specification is implicit in the results of the BALLOT for Data https://www.eclipse.org/lists/jakartaee-platform-dev/msg04057.html.

 

Vote +1, 0, or -1 on this BALLOT to indicate your preference regarding whether or not the Data specification will go into the Web profile, in addition to the platform profile. This vote will be counted by simple majority of Platform Project committers as listed in https://projects.eclipse.org/projects/ee4j.jakartaee-platform/who .

 

Non-committers are encouraged to vote as a measure of community sentiment.

 

This BALLOT will run until Thursday 2023-08-31 23:59 EDT or when all committers have voted, whichever comes first.
