David,
I have read your exchanges across the diverse Jakarta EE forums as I do any other Jakarta EE exchange and for the most part I am right beside with your reasoning and candor.
Jakartees,
This entire year has brought via the Jakarta EE forums some of the best exchanges seen thus far and also some of the most noisy & unworthy exchanges detracting for the community value.
It is irrelevant what we might think to add or adjust if we, each one of us, do not consider ourselves THE Moderators of any exchange we might choose to take priority to join.
Communities in opensource are made of individuals, each having its signature and own mental models, values, etc... making a diverse mix that when put together can enhance & make any project better. Sometimes, some are not as healthy, especially if left on the fence as ignored so something quiets down and refocuses on what is important... sometimes b/c the noise is too large to welcome any others who might try to descale the level of debt and distractions.
The beauty of it all, specially as this forum for Jakarta is public is that it shows the raw and the betterment.
With that in mind, can we invest 5min and keep the message in mind next time a project topic gets "not" comfy, and remember to check out this video on advice about Failing Nicely 3 lessons to keep in mind:
As with anything that needs rebranding with respect to the Jakarta EE project, we must fail and fail fast with the understanding that without individuals who want to code, collaborate with designs, etc, we will be left with a skeleton project with a starving community blaming "others" for their own polluted soil.
Jakarta EE is no longer a 1 company product and project, it is a community project and it deserves the level of discipline that states each one of understand that IT IS NOT ABOUT ME, it is about the survival of it that requires US to bring as much as possible value and processes before substance so that we can work together and understand WHY we do so.
--- thank YOU David for starting this thread! You are such a wonderful #ossDOER!
