[jakarta.ee-community] RES: Eclipse is still behind the current state of Jakarta EE 8

Hi,

Continuing the discussion that ended here:

This exact topic came up in the Jakarta Steering Committee recently.

Essentially what was being discussed here is still in demand; improving the tooling for Java EE, now Jakarta EE. The discussion ended 2 years ago with a proposal to either merge some of the existing WTP implementations from the various vendors (at the time Red Hat, now also Payara) into Eclipse proper, or to redo interesting parts as language server protocols.

What are the current thoughts on this?

My personal thinking is that both is a bit of work, but merging/donating the Eclipse WTP implementations might be less work than start over from scratch with the language server.

Kind regards,
Arjan
