Re: [iot-wg] New interesting LocationTech project proposal for indoor positioning

Hi Pascal,

Yes.  It is quite exciting.  In OGC SensorThings data model, we have a LOCATION entity for the THINGs.  And it seems the SpatialIndoor proposal can be the "input" for the LOCATION. i.e., providing the LOCATION for the Whiskers Gateways.

It is also worth to note that there is an international standard for indoor information:  http://www.opengeospatial.org/standards/indoorgml  This proposal shouldn't try to reinvent the indoor location model.

In addition, the proposal mentioned using GeoJSON.  GeoJSON is not suitable for indoor information though (as it is based on WGS84 coordinate reference system).  For indoor information, it's very possible a location reference system is needed.  I guess I will make a comment on the proposal page.

I also copy Dr. Ki-Joune Li, who is the expert of indoor location model and editor of IndoorGML.

Cheers,
Steve

If I'm not mistaking there is an opportunity for collaboration/adoption of some of the work done by Whisker.

Steve, what do you think?

Hi,

You might be interested in checking out this new project proposal from the LocationTech community: https://www.locationtech.org/proposals/spatialindoor
Open indoor geospatial software is of course very relevant in many IoT use cases, and I hope there can be some collaboration between SpatialIndoor and Eclipse IoT projects.
