Re: [iot-pmc] Dependencies for Ignite documents? (was: [CQ 13047] Initial Contribution to Ignite)

Hi,

The documents are .doc, .xls and .ppt files

To be precise: They are in Office Open XML format (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Office_Open_XML), which is a standard by ISO and IEC.
For an open source project I personally would have preferred ODF (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenDocument), but as both are official open standards, I think this is only a matter of personal taste then.

so we probably need an exempt pre-req for LibreOffice or Microsoft Office, I guess?

Well, in the end, these are XML files, which can potentially also be consumed through vi… There are multiple tools available that can read that format and display it in a nicer way than vi, but I would tend to say that this is up to the user - it does not really make me ask for an exempt pre-req.
Or do we also have exempt pre-req for Firefox/IE/Chrome for any project that serves HTML pages?

Regards,
Kai

Hi PMC,

The Eclipse Ignite project will be doc-only since, if you remember it,
it's mainly a methodology for IoT, and therefore a bunch of documents and
templates that people can use to design their solutions.

Also, in general, it would be useful to have another pair of eyes look at
the initial contribution CQ and add to my comments if need be. This is
certainly a different kind of contribution than what we're used to :)

Apologies for the delay, Philip.
I believe Julien is right, I will get a discussion going with the PMC to
see
how we want to proceed with the dependency to Office-like tools for
manipulating the contribtued documents.

In the meantime, it would be great if you could update the documents with
the
following modifications:
- You should refer to the project as "Eclipse Ignite | IoT" or "Eclipse
Ignite"
- The Excel document has a mention of the CC license, but neither the
doc or
ppt document do. Can you please add that?
- The Excel file has improper attribution and contact info. It should be
pointing to the Eclipse Ignite project page and Eclipse Ignite mailing
list,
not "Enterprise IoT" and Dirk's contact :-) Please also remove the
Enterprise
IoT logo (FWIW I am happy to help you get a logo done for Eclipse Ignite
if
you're interested).
- In the ppt file, again, the Enterprise IoT logo should be removed or
replaced with Eclipse Ignite's.
- In the doc file, you will want to remove mentions such as "It is based
on
Ignite from Enterprise IoT."

Let me know if you have further questions! Looking forward to finally
getting
Eclipse Ignite templates in the Eclipse repos!
