Re: [ee4j-pmc] Release process

We set up reviews to conclude on the first and third Wednesdays of the month (have a look at the note block in the Progress and Release Reviews section of the handbook). The next review period ends on February 5/2020, so you'll have to set your release date to either that or some date shortly thereafter.

To clarify... a "service release" must contain bug fixes only. Both the Eclipse Development Process and the handbook include this definition: "A Service Release, or Bug-fix Release is a type of Release that includes no significant changes or additions over the base Release." The EMO leaves it to the PMC to determine what constitutes "bug fixes only" (the PMC has more technical knowledge of their domain than the EMO). A release that is backwards compatible is likely a minor release.

Most of our projects do adopt Semantic Versioning, but the Eclipse Development Process does not impose this on projects (if you really hate your adopters, you can call your release "bob"). I believe, however, that the Eclipse EE4J PMC requires their projects to use Semantic Versioning. If we don't have this written down somewhere, we probably should.

HTH,

Wayne

I have setup release date for January 24, as it needs to be at least a
week ahead. The release date can be set correctly later.

Thank you,
