Re: [eclipse-pmc] Renaming `Eclipse` top-level project into`Eclipse SDK`?

Mikael,

I was responding to mcq request for a comprehensive plan. We definitely have a plan that take into consideration the overall Eclipse brand.

I agree it would be great to understand any of the concerns the Eclipse PMC might have with a potential change.  For instance, what links are you worried about keeping? We can easily see through Google Analytic if they are being used.  I am also sure we could do redirects.

FWIW, we are working on an Eclipse brand strategy to help resolve the overloaded term 'Eclipse'. The strategy is being provided to the Eclipse Foundation Board for approval. Part of the strategy is a recommendation to rename the Eclipse TLP.  Once the Board has reviewed the strategy I would be happy to go through it with the Eclipse PMC.

Board decisions usually take some time to be easily actionable IMO; whereas Eclipse PMC decisions are usually quickly turned into results. If the result of this discussion is an agreement with community (via PMC) on a change, it can be done very quickly compared to waiting for the Board to review some strategy and EMO to implement it.
That's one of the reasons why I think it's interesting for all of us to start discussing a rename of Eclipse TLP as early as possible. Especially if the strategy involves renaming Eclipse TLP, it's better involving the Eclipse PMC to validate that renaming is doable in their opinion before presenting a strategy to the Board.
FWIW, I wouldn't approve a strategy at the Board if I don't have a feeling of some community endorsement and feasibility assessment of the strategy; and for the specific topic of renaming Eclipse TLP, I'd rather see the issue presented to Community and have the Community discussing to sort out some good solutions than seeing EMO pressuring the Eclipse project all of a sudden because Board voted something without consulting the PMC.
