Meeting Logistics
No BIRT PMC meeting planned for August 21st due to travel schedules.
BIRT 2.1.1 Planning
BIRT 2.1.1 is planned for a September 29, 2006 release. This will be a coordinated release with a number of other Eclipse projects.
BIRT 2.1.1 is a maintenance release only, and the development team is already working on bugs that will be addressed in this release. For a list of the bugs that are already addressed in, and are scheduled for, this release, refer to Bugzilla.
David Williams has now setup a cross project coordination Wiki page at http://wiki.eclipse.org/index.php/Callisto_Coordinated_Maintenance.
BIRT 2.2/3.0 Planning
The next BIRT major release will be BIRT 2.2 or 3.0 -- with the final feature set determining the release designation.
There are now a number of projects assigned to this release in Biugzilla.
MS Word Emitter
The MS Word Emitter work that is being contributed by InetSoft was tentatively planned for the 2.1.1 release. We are waiting for an update on this from Larry.
Current discussion is to take a conservative approach and not incorporate this by default in BIRT 2.1.1 (since 2.1.1 is a maintenance release). Instead, this could be offered as separate download that can be added to a BIRT configuration.
In order for this approach to work, BIRT needs to dynamically extend a number of UI components in order to recognize that a new Emitter has been added and to then expose this via the UI. This work is already scheduled for BIRT 2.1.1. via Bugzilla entry 146517 (see https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=146517).
