Re: [amalgam-dev] Re: oAW in Amalgam

Ed, Rich,
we've got some things that are rather cross-cutting. Like, e.g. the
oAW perspective, slots for menu entries, categories for wizards and so
on. It really would be a good idea to have this stuff in a common plug-
in.

Markus,
Typically components share the newsgroup of the containing and users
are
asked prefix subjects headings, for example with [oAW]. After
alll, you
have things like Xtext, XPand, and MWE spead across multiple
projects and
there are newsgroups for those projects already too. So I expect
you'd
use
news://news.eclipse.org/eclipse.modeling.amalgam
There is already a real CVS component as well:

It's not clear what you mean by glue code. I imagine most if not
all the
code is associated directly with Xpand, Xtend, Xtext, and MWE. What
else,
specifically, is there that would not logically belong with the former
components?

Re: oAW in Amalgam
Hi Rich,
I'd say no proposal is necessary, just a patch applied to Bugzilla
(the
usual process). This way, we can take a look at the extent of what's
being proposed. For now, the only artifact in the Amalgam repo is
an EPP
definition for the general Modeling package. I expect an "oAW"
definition that would include Xpand/Xtend/MWE/Xtext is the place to
start?
yes, but we do need real a repository where we can
put the "glue" code as well as a newsgroup for support.
Markus
Thanks,
Rich

Markus,
I imagine it would involve just a feature definition for pulling
together a
subset of the things Amalgam itself is already pulling
together. I
doubt
it needs to be a separate project. Rich is the lead for the
project, so
it's best to take direction from him on how to proceed? I wonder
what
steps need to be taken to ensure that oAW is an Eclipse brand and
that
we
don't get flak from the foundation about it...

oAW in Amalgam
Hi Ed,
what are the next steps we need to take to get oAW
under Amalgam, as discussed at EclipseCon? Do we need
to write a project proposal?
Thanks,
Markus
