not really, this was done by opentracing community and they did not maintain it.

I believe the tracing project (https://github.com/eclipse-vertx/vertx-tracing) is only applicable to vertx4.x, and I have applications that still use vertx 3.6 :(

The opentracing-contrib project is dated and incomplete, is it maintained elsewhere in the vertx world?

no, but you could ask them to update it for latest vertx version, perhaps you can start by opening an issue in the project ?
