[sirius-dev] Compatibility changes in the upcoming Sirius 4.1

Hi all.

As mentioned last February in the sirius-dev mailing-list, the upcoming Sirius 4.1 (to be released in early October) will drop support of older versions of Eclipse: - Juno (Eclipse 3.8/4.2, from 2012), Kepler (Eclipse 4.3, from 2013), and Luna (Eclipse 4.4, from 2014) will no longer be supported; - Mars (Eclipse 4.5, from 2015) and Neon (Eclipse 4.6, from 2016) will be the only versions supported (Neon being the reference platform).

To be clear, Sirius 4.1 will not even install on the older versions mentioned above.

The reason for this change is two-fold:
- ensuring compatibility with such a wide range of versions (Juno, Kepler, Luna, Mars, Neon and soon Oxygen) stretches the developement team a little too thin; - staying compatible with very old versions forbids us to take advantage of new features introduced since.

If compatibility with those old versions is important to you, it is still possible to maintain it either through your own involvement in the project or sponsored work. You can contact me for details.

Regards,
Pierre-Charles David (Sirius co-lead)
