Re: [p2-dev] Pack200 compression

Thanks Daniel and Mickael,
Please also ask about the legality of using the GPL2 licensed tests
currently in OpenJDK to test the implementation, they won't be
distributed as part of a library release, used only for testing. These
will be jtreg tests, the tests could be distributed separately as a test
compatiblity kit under the GPL license with classpath exception.
I think if Legal do find issues, there's a better chance Oracle will
listen to an organisation like Eclipse (rather than a few individual
developers) and possibly be prepared to donate the standard and tck to
Eclipse.
Regards,
Peter.

I think it is not clear whether one is allowed to ship an
implementation of a deprecated and later removed JSR. Mark could
not answer that on jdk-dev. Before moving it to Eclipse it should
definitely go by the legal team.
I think the legal audit should even happen before starting any further
development on this topic. Because if legal can say now that it's not
allowed, then there is not much more to discuss and it will be a good
hint for Peter about what to (not) do and expect with his project.
@Daniel: would you mind contacting EMO Legal asking them about this
and sharing the answer here?
