We don't have any immediate plans to do that, but you are welcome to provide such patch yourself. We'll do a timely review and suggest any additional changes, if needed.

M2E 1.6 is set to be included with Eclipse Mars in June.
In the meantime milestone and snapshot builds are available from https://www.eclipse.org/m2e/m2e-downloads.html

I've moved the discussion to m2e-dev.
I think it should be sensible enough if the 'advanced' section is open on the new wizard if default (empty) values were changed previously.
As Igor pointed out in that feature request, IDialogSettings should be used to save those values on finish.

while searching for a solution to my problem, I already found a feature request in bugzilla, which is exactly describing what I want. Unfortunately it is closed without a solution:

When checking out maven projects from a repository or importing them from file System, we always open the "advanced" area und set the name template to "[groupId].[artifactId]".

Like proposed in the bug, I also first looked at the preferences (comments say that nobody will take a look there, but thats what the preferences are made for?). Another solution would be to add a checkbox "save as default" next to the field.

In the comments there are suggestions to redesign the dialog, which I liked, too. It is strange, that there is the collapsed advanced category on every page. But a simple solution for making the wizzard remember the value of the one field would be enough to me.

Is there any plan to add such a feature? Can the bug report be reopened? Maybe I can help implementing this feature (worked a bit on eclipse wizzards in the past)?
