Re: [jwt-dev] Graduation release [was: Download stats forp2 andHelios]

Hi Florian, Hi Marc,

wouldn't have been possible without your great work during the last years :)
Before announcing the graduation we still have to prepare the 1.0 release however, i.e. set the version tags to 1.0, collect the list of changes (closed bugs), rebuild and promote. We could start immediately with the preparation (although I'm thinking about fixing the c&p bug Marc discovered first) but I we can only promote 1.0 to our update site after Helios has been released (actually after the last Helios build run).

Best Regards,
Chris

Hi Marc, Chris,

indeed! Yippie, we finally made it! Let's open a bottle of Champagne at
Eclipse Summit where we hopefully will meet each other again! Maybe I'll
already drink some tonight :-) Thanks to Chris and Marc for making this
possible!

I agree that we now need to create some buzz about it. Chris, how about some
press releases at IDW, the University newsletter, etc. for the actual Helios
release date? Additionally, we should also contact the friendly mailing
lists such as STP, SOA-IWG, AgilPro, SEMPRO, Scarbo, etc. which are detailed
on the wiki.

I'll try to find some time during the weekend to blog about it.

Best regards,

Florian

Hi

Chris, thanks for asking Anne, seems we've indeed made it :

So... Congratulations to everybody who helped make the long awaited
moment a reality : JWT is a full-fledged, mature Eclipse project !

We'll drink some Champagne next time we get to see each other, but I'm
already shedding a tear :)

Now, as Florian said, we "just" still have the work of making it known !
So... to your mailing lists and blogs guys !!!

I'll propose a press release draft& final website blurb today.

Regards,
Marc

Hi Florian,

I'm not completely sure about the status of the graduation process
since the review last week only covered the Helios integration. Also
it was probably too late to make this change in the RC stage.
Therefore I think it would be best to make the switch immediately
after the official Helios release, so that the new version will be
available on installing JWT but we're not in risk of getting into
serious trouble ;)

Regards,
Chris

PS: Finally we'll ditch the egg, but well, the logo....we need an
artist :)

Hi Chris,

thanks for your information. Does that mean, that we graduated from
incubation then? Then we should definitely create some buzz about it
together with the Helios release: write some press releases,
summarize the
best features of JWT (coming from this release or from Galileo) for new
articles in Eclipse magazine or IBM developerWorks (where we will
definitely
find again some discussions about the Helios projects) and we should
change
our icons on the web pages: no more incubation egg anymore, but maybe
an own
JWT logo (still being on search...)?

What do you think?

Best regards,

Florian

Hi Florian,

as you suspected the procedure was the same as last (every?) year: next
one, we're good to go, next one, we're good to go, ... ;)

In the interest of time there were only short discussions about the most
pressing issues, e.g. projects which haven't signed their jars etc.

Chris

Hi there,

BTW: tomorrow is the simultaneous release review call. The main
question for us probably is on how to progress with the graduation.

Oh yeah, that's the one that goes "- Next one... - OK - Next one... -
OK", I like it ;)

As I have not been able to attend the review call, I would be
interested
in
the outcome of our graduation release: was it accepted or were there
any
comments concerning our incubation phase or the slides that you've
thankfully prepared, Chris?

I guess it was again as Marc mentioned like "Ok, next one, okay"
:-), but
I
thought I'd better ask.

Have a nice Sunday and kind regards,

Florian

Nice to have, especially with the upcoming millions of downloads ;)

BTW is the new web site blurb OK with you (see previous mail) ?

Marc

The stable update site now has support for recording download stats.
If no problems arise, we can add this feature to the main update
site.
Probably an interesting thing to know.

Greetings,

As you may know, p2 now has a mechanism to track download requests.
We've always been tracking ZIP downloads from our website, but
update
downloads were not being tracked since the Update Manager went
out of
style.

If you wish to produce download statistics for your project, *you
must
update your p2 repository*. Please see the document below for
information about enabling download stats, and querying the
database.

http://wiki.eclipse.org/Project_Download_Stats

If you wish to discuss this issue in more detail, of if you need
assistance, please subscribe to (and post on) the
cross-project-issues-dev mailing list:

Thanks,

Denis
