[iot-wg] An update on the Kubernetes IoT/Edge Working Group
|
All,
The last few weeks have been pretty busy for many of the participants to this group, so I though it would be useful to provide a quick update on the Kubernetes Working Group we are in the process of creating to address IoT and Edge computing topics in the context of Kubernetes and cloud native computing.
A lot of time has been spent getting feedback and guidance from the Kubernetes and CNCF community as many of us were not necessarily familiar with how they operate, but I believe we are now in a good shape to effectively create the group and start doing real stuff ;-)
- There’s been a lot of ongoing discussions on the kubernetes Google Groups, and lots of people have expressed interest - see https://groups.google.com/forum/#!msg/kubernetes-sig-network/md7xv6VVc9c/eF3w8lyaAAAJ
- The consensus seems to be on initially focusing the WG on identifying some typical IoT use cases, and documenting the associated architectures and how they may expose some potential issues/concerns/areas of improvement in the Kubernetes ecosystem. Based on these, the WG may feed some requirements into the Kubernetes SIGs that are responsible for the relevant projects (e.g kubelet, …).
- Thanks to Dejan and with the help of other folks from the Kubernetes community, the resources required to operate the Working Group are almost all created now, namely:
- One of the last outstanding tasks will be to "officially" request the creation of the WG, and get it added to https://github.com/kubernetes/community - Dejan and I will get this done later this week.
In the meantime, I would encourage anyone interested in participating to this effort to:
Please let Dejan or I know if you have any questions, Benjamin -
