Presumably the cancel button should be doing this. Andrew, can you not cancel the job with the cancel button? If not, please update the bug to explicitly say that because this is a bug.

A generalization of Bug 460852.  In general if an item launches a process and
that process hangs or otherwise will not terminate there is no way to stop the
process other than to close ICE.  Either through the cancel button, deleting
the item, or via some other means there should be a non-disruptive way to stop
processes that are behaving badly.
