Re: [hono-dev] Deprecating the Kura adapter

As I just saw that there already is a new note in the release review docs, I created a PR for the release notes: https://github.com/eclipse/hono/pull/870

Hi everyone,

I would like to start a discussion around dropping the Kura adapter.

Back in Hono 0.5 IIRC the Kura specific adapter was introduced. It is a derived version of the MQTT adapter, having some Kura specifics.

Through the Eclipse IoT integration effort, we do have better support in Kura 4 for Hono MQTT, and we made some changes in the Hono MQTT adapter as well. This allows one to use Kura in combination with the vanilla MQTT adapter of Hono, not requiring any special behavior on either side.

So, I do think that we could drop the Kura adapter in Hono 0.9 or beyond. And deprecate the Kura adapter in the Hono 0.8 release notes.

Let me know what you think.

Cheers

Jens
