[epp-dev] M5 update issue

Hi Ken,

can you report on the following bug about your findings?

Bug 427148 - I can't update to M5
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=427148

I thought that the issue affect all Windows packages, but not the Linux ones. The status of the Mac OSX packages is unknown to me. But you are saying that you successfully updated a Scout Luna M4 to M5 on Windows. Can you confirm this on the above bug report including JVM and OS version?

The other update issues that you are mentioning is about root features. Only root features are considered in your update operation - the current behaviour meets the expectation of some and hasn't been changed in the last x years. Others wish a different behaviour and want to change it.
Personally I'd like see this improved, but despite a few questions here and there, I haven't seen a group large enough to justify a bigger change in EPP. See [1] and [2], but there are probably other bugs out there.

Thanks,
Markus

Hi Markus,

I’ve just tested the update process to M5 with the Scout M4 EPP under Linux and Windows and it worked on both platforms.

However, if I remove all update sites and add the Scout Nightly as the only update site, no features to be updated can be found.

I guess that “Check for Updates” does only check the top-level feature which epp.package.scout in this case. Although some newer Scout features are available, they cannot be found because they are “sub-features” of the epp.package.scout feature. Is my assumption correct?

Cheers,

Ken
