Thanks for all the help. I can now at least "play" a bit further, with ECF on Felix.
About your suggestion (file a bug against Equinox)...I dont really
understand what it is that is going wrong so I would not even know how
to word such a bug.
If I find some time I will debug that part and and first try and understand the problem a bit more, before I log a bug.

True, relying on startup order is far from ideal. I suspect this to be a
bug in the extension point registry on Felix not being dynamic aware.
You might wanna file a bug against Equinox.
