As I recall, it was Chris Anisczyck and maybe Remy Suen that worked on 
the communications perspective...so they will have to answer your 
substantive questions below.

Yes, indeed...please do.  Add Chris and/or Remy to the bugs to get their 
comments/input about current design decisions, alternatives, 
implementation, etc.
