[cdt-releng-inbox] [Bug 149764] New: Accidental installation into Eclipse 3.1.2

https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=149764
Product/Component: CDT / cdt-releng

Summary: Accidental installation into Eclipse 3.1.2
           Product: CDT
           Version: 3.1
          Platform: PC
        OS/Version: Windows XP
            Status: NEW
          Severity: minor
          Priority: P3
         Component: cdt-releng
        AssignedTo: cdt-releng-inbox@xxxxxxxxxxx
        ReportedBy: eric.cloninger@xxxxxxxxxxxxx

I accidentally installed CDT 3.1 into a vanilla 3.1.2 Eclipse platform version.
While this isn't a big deal, one of our CDT committers says this is a bug in
the configuration that allowed the installation to proceed on that version of
Eclipse. I tested this again, just to make sure I wasn't incorrect.

Eclipse: 3.1.2
CDT: 3.1
OS: WinXP SP2
Memory: 1GB

I had Eclipse 3.1.2 platform installed. The install file was
eclipse-SDK-3.1.2-win32.zip. I used the software updates screen to update from
http://download.eclipse.org/tools/cdt/releases/callisto. I was able to go
through the entire install procedure without any error messages or hinderances.

Once inside Eclipse, the C++ development perspective was available as a choice.
Once I tried to work in eclipse, I would get java null pointer exceptions in
various places. One such place is in Window->Preferences->C/C++->Appearance.
