Re: [birt-dev] Question regarding BIRT and Evaluation for Use
|
Michelle,
I can answer from the perspective of the Eclipse Foundation. (I
am the Executive Director.)
To the best of my knowledge, the Eclipse Foundation has never
been directly involved in having any projects evaluated for
approval for use on any government agency network. That doesn't
mean that it's never been done. It just means that the foundation
has not been involved. Since all of our projects are published as
open source, and I am aware that at least some of our projects are
being used in .mil settings, I do believe that some of these
evaluations have been done by third parties. But unfortunately, I
am not sure where we could point you for help on this specific
request.
If Wim or others know of such an evaluation being done, I am sure
they'll chime in.
AFAIK, the Eclipse Foundation project that has the strongest .mil
community is OSEE. Someone on the osee-dev@xxxxxxxxxxx list might
be able to help you.
Hope that helps.

Betreff: [birt-dev] Question regarding BIRT and
Evaluation for Use
Hello,
I am a government
contractor working at Cheyenne Mountain Space Force Station
and the reason I am contacting you today is to try and find
out if BIRT has been evaluated for approval for use on any
government agency network? I know that may sound like a
weird question to ask, but please hear me out. I am
developing a customized Remedy solution for use in my
department and I require the ability to generate
comprehensive reports but I find that the Report Designer
that is included with the BMC Remedy ITSM product is rather
limiting as far as formatting and presentation capabilities.
I read through their documentation and they happened to
mention building customized reports using BIRT and after
doing some research, I found that BIRT may be the tool that
I need to generate the reports that I want to create. Since
I work for a government agency, I can’t just download the
tool and use it without it having been already evaluated and
approved for use on the network. I have not been able to
find any documentation stating that it had been evaluated
for approval for use on my network. DOD does have
reciprocity agreements with other government agencies though
and I was wanting to know if you were aware of any
government agency that may have evaluated this product for
use on their network or are actively using it. If I am able
to obtain a Certificate to Field for use, then I may be able
to use this tool in my network which would be a great help
for my project.
Thank you very much for
your time!
