Yes, lwm2m doesn't include a introspection of the meta-data. Therefore it's "to be done on Leshan"
Luckily there is already some information also in this mailing archive.

Hi,
I'm currently developing a lwm2m client using wakama.
I also use Leshan as the lwm2m server.
I define one of the resources as 'execute' but I can't make Leshan server to "see" that resource (know it exist, and able to access to).
(a readable resource is easier, because when the server reads the instance I simply pass is as lwm2m_tlv_t array)
So my question is whether I can tell the server my new instance structure? Or is it has to be a predefined language, and therefore the work to be done is on Leshan project.
