Re: [ve-dev] VE for Eclipse version higher than 3.2
|
Hi Yves,
Thanks you for taking the time to create a patch for this bug. For the
past few months, I've been unable to spend any significant time on VE
since neither my day job nor my evening contract work have provided any
time to support it. Despite that, I am making time this month to take
care of some issues with VE in the following order of priority:
1) Restore the build process to enable periodic builds to take place on
Eclipse 3.3.x
2) Get a version running with the 3.4.x milestones (an official build in
that case as well).
3) Integrate any contributed patches.
4) Address any critical issues limiting usability of those versions.
Obviously, #1 is the big issue here. Most of the work required to run VE
with Eclipse 3.3 was done quite a while ago, but has not been available
because I had problems getting the build files updated, then took on the
contract work, which ate up my time. There have been unofficial versions
built since then, but an official version is needed. I'm not sure how
soon it will be ready, but I've made some progress, and I have a better
idea where to go for help (i.e. Nick Boldt).
I will be at EclipseCon again this year (my second) and will gladly
discuss VE with anyone who's interested. I'll also be doing 2 short
talks related to my contract work (EMF and RCP), and supporting Joe
Winchester's short talk on VE.

Here is the post I made in VE newsgroups:

Here is the build I made for Eclipse 3.3 with the bugfix of
GridBagConstraint:
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=203542
The build is available here for Windows:
http://www.soyatec.org/update/org.eclipse.ve_1.3.0.200802040250.zip
It depends on emf-sdo-xsd-SDK-2.3.0.zip and GEF-ALL-3.3.1.zip. You need
to install them first. Please keep in mind, it is not official build. You
use it at your risk. Any report are welcome.

Will we get to know here in the mailing-list when a usable version is
released?
